When a child or young person has an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) there is an ongoing requirement for the EHCP to be reviewed by the local authority at least annually. This is referred to as the Annual Review. Jo Willoughby leads on the process of Annual Reviews at Ivy House School and wanted to share the following message:

Dear Families,

I have been a teacher at Ivy House for a number of years, but since September 2022, I have had the privilege of being the EHCP Compliance Lead in school.  I oversee the Education, Health and Care Plans for each child and lead the Annual Review meetings.  My aim is to ensure that the Annual Review process is an effective and positive experience for all involved.

During the year, your child will have an Annual Review of their EHCP.  I will contact you to invite you to school for this meeting.

The purpose of the meeting is to check the accuracy of the plan as well as outline the progress being made and set new targets for the year ahead.  Please don’t worry about this meeting – it is an important meeting, but it is also an opportunity to celebrate your child’s successes as well as discuss any concerns you may have.  I am here to guide you through the process and answer your questions.  I can link with other professionals or signpost you to other support.  We are a team, working together to give your child the best opportunities and you are a very important member of that team.

Feedback from Annual Reviews last year was very positive.  A parent emailed to say: “I wanted to take a moment to express my sincere appreciation for all your efforts in arranging the meeting.  Thank you for reviewing the points you made about L’s progress and the new goals for his ongoing improvement.  Your insights were incredibly helpful, and I feel much better equipped to support L going forward”.

I hope I can be the same support for every family in Ivy House.  I look forward to welcoming you into school during the year.

Jo Willoughby
EHCP Compliance Lead
